Stalefish, On Point’s very own DJ ambassador from France, has been involved in electronic music since 1995. Originally inspired by raves in the South of France, Stalefish bought his first machines in 1996 and quickly set to work producing his first tracks.
By 1997, Stalefish had started playing Jungle/Drum & Bass. While most DJ’s in the South of France favoured the Tech-Step style at the time, Stalefish preferred the sounds of Old School Jungle and Ragga Jungle. Never one to blindly follow trends, he spreads the Jungle/Drum & Bass sound throughout the Toulon area (near Marseille) and developed his DJ technique at private parties and outdoor festivals.
In 2001, Stalefish met MC Metod, 2D and Smeen San. The four shared similar artistic sensibilities and together they founded the Step Express Crew, a collective which aims to promote Jungle/Drum & Bass music throughout the South of France. The crew soon started their own label, Step Express Recordings, which was the first Jungle/Drum & Bass label in Toulon. The label has released four maxi vinyls, while two more are currently in production.
Though busy with his own record label, in 2005 Stalefish accompanied Metod MC on a vocal track released by Parisian label Oxygen Records. This was the very first track released by Oxygen Records that contained French vocals. Stalefish has been also seen on stage with Metod MC, where his Jump Up & Rollin style mixes with Metod’s Funk & Reggae vibe – a potent combination that never fails to rinse out the dance floor.
Most recently, Stalefish has new material forthcoming through On Point, including a remix featured on the Bad Man VIP.
